FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions.

Common questions about how the platform works, what the data means, and how to interpret signals.

Is this platform free to use?

Yes, marketOutlook is completely free. All screener strategies, watchlists, and stock detail pages are available without an account or subscription.

How often is the data updated?

Market data is cached and refreshed approximately every 10 minutes during trading hours. The screener data is sourced from Yahoo Finance via their public API. Prices shown may lag by up to 15 minutes depending on the exchange.

What markets are covered?

We cover three markets: US (NYSE, NASDAQ), India (NSE/BSE via Yahoo Finance suffixes like .NS and .BO), and Other (a curated list of global ETFs and international stocks). Each market has its own watchlist and screener view.

What does the Composite RSI score mean?

The Composite RSI is the average of RSI-22, RSI-44, and RSI-66 — three RSI calculations at different lookback periods. A high score (above 60) means momentum is strong across short, medium, and long timeframes. A low score (below 40) suggests broad weakness.

What is the Breakout Score?

The Breakout Score combines four sub-signals: distance from the 52-week high (closer = better), volume ratio vs 20-day average, 10-day rate of change, and whether the stock is above its MA50 and MA200. Each contributes to a 0–100 score.

Why is a stock showing a BUY signal but the price is falling?

Momentum signals lag price action — they reflect what has happened, not what will happen. A BUY signal means momentum indicators are currently aligned bullishly, but the stock can still move against that signal. Always use these as one input among many.

Can I use this for actual trading decisions?

The signals and screeners are for informational and educational purposes only. They are not financial advice. Before trading, apply your own fundamental analysis, set appropriate stop-losses, and never risk more than you can afford to lose.

Why does the Mean Reversion screener sometimes show fewer stocks?

Mean Reversion applies two filters: Composite RSI < 40 (oversold) AND ROC-10 > −8% (not in freefall). During strong bull markets, few stocks will be oversold, so the list naturally shrinks. In corrections, it grows. This is by design.

What does ROC (Rate of Change) measure?

ROC measures the percentage change in price over a set period. ROC-20 compares today's price to the price 20 trading days ago. A positive value means the stock has gained over that period; negative means it has declined.

Why do some stocks show "--" for price or indicators?

This usually means the data for that ticker was unavailable at the last refresh — the Yahoo Finance API occasionally fails for specific symbols. Try refreshing the page or checking back shortly.

What is the difference between SMA and EMA?

SMA (Simple Moving Average) gives equal weight to all periods in the lookback window. EMA (Exponential Moving Average) gives more weight to recent prices, making it more responsive to current conditions. The screener uses SMA50 and SMA200 for trend filtering; the EMA20 is available in the raw data for advanced users.

How do I search for a specific stock?

Use the search bar in the navigation. Type the company name or ticker symbol — suggestions appear as you type. Press Enter or click a suggestion to go directly to the stock's detail page.
